So what are my thoughts on Valentine's Day? It's not a huge event for me but it still means something. There are many things I like about it and many things I don't like. Just as many people out there, there are those who are in love with the idea of Valentine's Day and those who loathe it. I stand inbetween!
If you do not want to hear my thoughts on what I do not like about Valentine's Day...skip this paragraph. I do not like the commercialism of Valentine's Day. I do not like when people believe that buy these expensive "love necessities" are what makes a relationship and what makes that certain relationship special. I do not like the materialistic-ness. I do not like the fact that you only express love this one certain day of the year. I believe you should express it everyday and Valentine's is a day where you can be absolutely outrageous in expressing it. Other things can make your relationship special and most of the time they don't cost much to the wallet. I do not like the people who complain that they don't have anybody to spend Valentine's day with... I guess we do usually spend Valentine's Day with a particular person and I don't like that assumption. I would like for people to realize that there are so many people that love them and that you don't need smoeone to be happy on Valentine's Day... let alone on a daily basis. It does not make sense to loathe this day just because you're not "in love" with someone, but I'm sure you do love people in your life... and to realize and celebrate that is what this day is all about. This day is dedicated to love, not a specific person you love. Share love with your mom, your dad, siblings and if you can't do that... share love with yourself. Pamper yourself with an extravagant night in.
What I love about Valentine's day are the corny movies that come out in the theatres. I'm a huge fangirl over those. I love imagining and seeing such amazing scenes between two people but I never picture myself actually being in a relationship like that because I'm such an awkward thing. I love dressing up on Valentine's Day because maybe I'll meet the love of my life in a coffee shop or at the library and you've got to be prepared for that (tehehe). I also love the huge acts of kindness and love between two people who really love each other. I also love preparing little gifts for my family and surprising with them and spending time with my girls, because we usually have a girl's day out. I love the cute things at the mall like all the stuffed animals and such, but my favourite will always be the gigantic SOCK MONKEY. Ah! I love seeing people stressing over which piece of jewelry to buy and proposal ideas and elderly couples holding hands and taking walks. I love that it's not too cold out that I can take reflection walks. I like to appreciate the love that I have lost in the past and why I'm so much better today and what a great person I am and how I can improve. I'm not sad I haven't found love. I'm sure it'll find me one day. It's a big step to not be angry or annoyed by people who are in love, and it says a lot about yourself. I think Valentine's Day is a day to appreciate all the love around you. LOVE AND BE LOVED, as they say.
Here's a Valentine's playlist that I will be playing throughout the day :) I tried to not repeat the typical songs that you hear on Valentine's Day so maybe you will find some new music/artists you like! It was so hard to settle down with just 14 songs, hmph! Enjoy x
